Boston Outdoor Preschool Network

Job Description

Toddler Connections Leader

Are you passionate about fostering a love for nature in young children? Do you thrive on building community and creating joyful learning experiences? Look no further! Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Toddler Connections Leader to join our team.

Mission:

The mission of Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is to meet the developmental needs of the whole child while initiating them into a lifelong relationship with the natural world.  We believe in the power of authentic play, curiosity, and environmental stewardship.  We are committed to expanding access to nature-based early childhood education.

What We Do:

BOPN is a nonprofit organization focused on nature-based early education. We bring families together in community and give children a joyfully muddy childhood under the loving guidance of dedicated teachers.  Our programs combine early childhood and environmental education.  Our goals are to promote children’s physical and mental health, encourage environmental stewardship, and to develop habits of mind such as curiosity, initiative, persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and responsibility.

Position Overview:

As a Toddler Connections Leader, you will play a pivotal role in our Toddler Connections (TC) program. Designed by co-founder Sara Murray, TC classes bring parents, caregivers, and toddlers together for engaging weekly sessions that foster community and nature exploration. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Teaching and Connecting: Lead weekly parent/caregiver-child classes, creating a gentle and predictable rhythm for the morning. Encourage child-led exploration and play while building connections among families.
  • Engaging Activities: Design and lead open-ended, play-based activities that ignite curiosity and creativity. From sensory play to nature-inspired crafts, you’ll keep little ones engaged and excited.
  • Seasonal Nature Songs: Share the magic of the seasons through delightful nature songs. Singing together fosters a sense of wonder and connection with the natural world.
  • Child Development Communication: Engage with families, sharing BOPN’s core principles of nature connection and our philosophy of education. Provide tools and resources to support parents of young children.
  • Materials Preparation: Prepare materials and supplies for each session, ensuring a seamless experience for families.

Qualifications: We’re looking for someone who embodies our values and is excited to contribute to our mission. Here’s what we’re seeking:

  • Engaging Communicator: You connect effortlessly with families and toddlers, creating a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Child Development Knowledge: You understand child development and can provide valuable insights to parents.
  • Nature Enthusiast: Rain or shine, you’re eager to work outdoors and introduce families to the wonders of nature.
  • Effective Communicator: Your oral and written communication skills are top-notch.
  • Adaptability: You thrive in a nonprofit start-up culture, embracing uncertainty and learning from mistakes.

Compensation: Starting compensation for this position ranges from $22 to $30 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
