Position Title: Development Manager – Southeast Region
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. As a key member of the Southeast Region team, the Development Manager will play a critical role in advancing the mission by driving revenue generation, engaging and managing volunteers, and supporting programs that make a direct impact in the lives of those with lupus.
The position primarily focuses on the implementation of the LFA’s signature Walk to End Lupus Now events across the Carolinas and other designated geographical areas, while working closely with volunteers to reach fundraising and participation goals. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and results-driven professional who excels in event management, sponsorship sales, volunteer recruitment, and community engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the planning, execution, and follow-up for Walk to End Lupus Now events, ensuring exceptional experiences for participants and achieving event-specific fundraising goals
• Recruit, train, and manage high-level volunteer committees to support event success and mission engagement
• Cultivate and secure corporate sponsorships, team participation, and individual fundraising efforts to meet annual revenue targets
• Develop and sustain meaningful relationships with sponsors, volunteers, and participants to enhance donor retention and engagement
• Oversee event budgets and revenue goals, ensuring alignment with organizational financial objectives
• Work collaboratively with regional staff and the national office to deliver LFA programs, including Lupus & You education initiatives, in alignment with strategic goals
• Maintain accurate records in donor databases and assist stakeholders with fundraising software and tools
• Serve as an ambassador of the LFA mission, integrating its values into all fundraising and event activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned to advance organizational objectives
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: A minimum 3-5 years of experience of successful nonprofit event management, sponsorship sales, volunteer and committee leadership and engagement experience, with a proven track record of exceeding fundraising goals
Skills:
• Strong project management, organizational, and budgeting skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored to diverse audiences
• Adept at building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal colleagues, and external corporate sponsors, volunteers, and community members
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail
• High functioning with computer software and applications with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor tracking database programs, and fundraising software
Other Requirements:
• Self-starter capable of managing multiple projects independently in a fast paced and team-based environment
• Available for occasional weekend and evening work
• Ability to lift 35+ pounds
• Willingness to travel 25-30% of time, primarily in region
• Must reside in the Carolinas, preferably North Carolina
• Must have a dedicated home office or workspace with reliable internet connectivity, ensuring the ability to perform job duties effectively and participate in virtual meetings without disruptions
