The Regional Director of Membership reports to the Chief Membership Officer and is accountable for the comprehensive design, management, and implementation of plans to extend and deliver Girl Scout programs in an assigned geographic area. The Regional Director of Membership also recruits, trains, and supervises a team of membership staff, covering a 13-county region and is responsible for ensuring that membership growth strategies and plans are consistent with the philosophy of Girl Scouting as a membership organization relying on the strength of voluntary leadership by adults.


As a member of the Council's leadership team, the Regional Director of Membership is a key team member in the execution of strategic priorities.


The Regional Director of Membership position is a hybrid position, NOT a fully remote one. The individual MUST reside within North Carolina and will be required to attend in-person activities within their 13-county area when needed.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supervises and leads a team of retention and recruitment professionals with the goal of growing Girl Scout membership in the assigned geographic region.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive membership marketing plan for girl membership growth and retention by analyzing market data on demographics, membership trends, and other pertinent resources and by revising membership marketing strategies as needed.
  • Guides regional team in deploying innovative approaches to deliver Girl Scout programs to girls and determine the need for additional council support by assessing community needs.

Requirements

  • Experience in supervising, coaching, and motivating staff required; knowledge of the Girl Scout program and proven experience in membership competencies preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated initiative to identify and solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including conflict resolution and de-escalation.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain relationships with community organizations and able to keep working relationships with volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends)
  • Travel throughout the region - approximately 30%
  • This position requires driving a council vehicle or a personal vehicle; therefore, the individual must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license, and self-report any vehicle violations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

  • Must be willing to obtain a GSUSA membership ($25 annually) upon employment.
