Job Description

The Kindness Initiative (KI) is excited to recruit an Executive Director to effectively and efficiently lead this growing non-profit’s objective of assisting vulnerable individuals and households in the San Diego Jewish Community meet their immediate and longer-term financial needs and life challenges. The mission of KI is to provide respectful, confidential and supportive services to assist Jewish households with financial insecurity find dignity and a path forward. https://www.kindnesssd.org


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ideal ED candidate will combine a unique blend of leadership, enthusiasm and empathy to expand the organization’s Membership, donor base, service provider collaborations and volunteer corps, while maintaining the organization’s vision and values.


Organization Leadership

Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance for Kindness Initiative to shape and grow a dynamic, high morale, compassionate, and productive organization. Maintain an organizational culture that fosters camaraderie, communication and teamwork among staff and volunteers. Grow donor base, increase membership, broaden service provider partnerships, and expand professional case management and volunteer corps. Increase community awareness of Jewish poverty in San Diego and refine and build the KI brand.


Oversee Case Management and Warehouse and Furniture Distribution Divisions

Support the Director of Member Services in expanding case management, service provider collaborations, and support volunteer corps. Support Director of kindnessG’MACH Division in soliciting donations and distributions of household goods to Jewish households in need at no cost. Encourage cross-referral of clients and volunteers.


Manages all Organization Support Functions

·       Fundraising. Oversight of Fundraising and Development activities. Work with the board and fundraising committee to attract financial resources by utilizing a broad array of fundraising tools to funds and to steward donors.

·       Marketing and Outreach. Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns, brand management, and communication strategies to promote the organization's mission, programs, fundraising efforts and general community awareness.

·       Financial Management. Oversee Operations Director in maintaining QuickBooks, preparing monthly financial statements, and various other financial functions. Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors.

·       Administration. Oversee the overall administrative functions of the organization including process protocols, human resources, data management, internal communications systems, telephonic inquiries, intake schedule, and general office operations.

·       Compliance and Governance. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, risk management and reporting requirements, Support the board of directors and board committees in governance matters including strategic planning.





Qualifications:

·       Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in a leadership position in a nonprofit or similar setting, preferably in social services.

·       Bachelor's degree. A master's degree or professional certification is desirable.

·       Familiarity with implementation and usage of Microsoft Office, LGL, Slack, and Dropbox.

·       Exceptional written/oral communication and presentation skills, with the keen ability to convey member stories to inspire action by diverse stakeholders.

·       Significant track record of fundraising success and ability to build relationships with donors and recruit volunteers.

·       Authentic. Demonstrates the highest level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism, ability to relate to Board Members, employees, donors and clients with ease.

·       Strategic vision and innovator: honors what is working, while initiating new policies where needed. 

·       Strong organizational/time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

·       Dedication to the organization’s mission and local Jewish community. Personal empathy for clients served.

·       San Diego personal network helpful.


Compensation will be commensurate with experience. While the position is full-time, there is opportunities for flexibility and remote work options.


ABOUT KINDNESS INITIATIVE

Our purpose is to alleviate poverty in the San Diego Jewish community by assisting households struggling with financial and other challenges attain self-sustainability, in a way that is confidential, compassionate, and preserves their dignity. Kindness Initiative has two divisions: (i) a customized, concierge, wrap-around case management organization, which utilizes collaborative resource partnerships, a supportive volunteer corps, and innovative solutions that changes lives by assisting individual Members help themselves meet basic physical and emotional needs in their unique journey towards self-sufficiency; and (ii) kindnessG’MACH -- also known as The Jewish Gift Closet -- through community donations collects at a warehouse household goods including clothing for adults and children, furniture, baby supplies, children’s toys, hygiene products, kosher housewares, books, Judaica, linens, maternity and new mother goods, and special occasion clothing such as weddings, and distributes them to Jewish households in need at no cost.
