Job Description

OSPREY Camp, located in Olympia, Washington, is seeking a self-motivated, environmental science-oriented Camp Cabin Manager. OSPREY Camp (Opportunities for Stewardship Promoting Respect for the Environment and Youth) is an outdoor school designed to provide students with hands-on learning and application of natural science and conservation concepts while living together in the outdoors.


The Camp Cabin Manager works closely with our 5th/6th grade students and high school Mentors, onsite at camp, providing support to campers and Mentors alike to ensure their success throughout their OSPREY Camp experience. This position reports directly to the OSPREY Camp Director. *OSPREY Camp is a secular outdoor education program.

Qualifications & Responsibilities (Camp Cabin Manager)

  • Experience working in Outdoor Education/Environmental Science camps or programs is strongly desired.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision, support, safety, and success of all campers, within specifically designated girls’ or boys’ cabins, while onsite at camp; This includes all campers and Mentors in each cabin.
  • Provides 24-hour support to each camper and their Mentors, with an emphasis on behavior management, tasks and responsibilities, communication skills, time management, and cabin pride and spirit.
  • Works closely with each cabin to initiate, delegate, and support friendly cabin competitions, cabin presentations, cabin responsibilities, etc.
  • Facilitates high school Mentor recruitment sessions at local high schools when camp is not actively in session – mileage reimbursed.


Responsibilities & Qualifications (All Positions)

  • Behavior management of students, Mentors, and teachers.
  • Works with OSPREY Camp Staff during meal programs; leads camp songs; leads presentations, etc.
  • Onsite, 24 hours/day, when Mentors, students, and teachers are present – lodging and meals provided.
  • Possesses excellent communication and time management skills, able to work independently and in groups.
  • Self-motivated, focused, resilient, compassionate, nurturing, enthusiastic, and loves working with kids.
  • Passion for collaborating with underserved communities with a lens of equity & inclusion.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to travel to schools in the greater Puget Sound area – mileage reimbursed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Essential Functions (Physical)

  • Lift and carry up to 50lbs and move heavy materials across camp facilities.
  • Consistently work in both indoor facilities and outdoor adverse weather conditions.
  • Maintain a high level of energy and excitement despite strenuous activity (hiking, working long hours, etc.)


Dates of Employment

September 25, 2023, through June 7, 2024. Work schedule is primarily Monday-Friday with some weekends required; onsite 24 hours/day during camp sessions (lodging and meals provided). Planned time off includes November 20-26, 2023, and December 18-31, 2023.
