TITLE: Chief Business Officer

REPORTS TO: The Executive Director SCHEDULE: Mon.-Fri.; occasional evenings and/or weekends

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Chief Business Officer (CBO) will report directly to the Executive Director with coordination of the organization’s financial and business affairs. Serves as a strategic planner and project manager responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations and processes to identify strategic initiatives that would drive the company to its short term and long-term growth and development. The Chief Business Officer is an exempt position of the Winston Salem Rescue Mission which must hold to the doctrine and Constitution/By-Laws of the organization. The Chief Business Officer must be willing to embrace the Winston Salem Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith, and be a current member or regular attendee of a local, Christian church.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May hire and train new staff in areas related to budget, planning, analysis, and operations. Oversee the performance of the executive leadership in the areas of finance, operations and make recommendations to the Executive Director in the areas of administration, programs, donor relations, and development.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The areas of specific responsibility will vary in intensity and scope, but as a basic rule, the following areas will be ongoing for the Chief Business Officer (CBO) position. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Chief Business Officer will:

• Direct reports include Director of Finance and Director of Business Operations/IT

• Keep Executive Direct appraised at all times of real time activities and actions taking place within the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission.

• Responsible for reporting to the ED any external activities that are occurring or might possibly have a bearing on the future welfare or image of the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission. Communications is of the upmost importance in the AD position.

• Collaborates with the Executive Director, Board, and Executive Team developing and implementing strategies for all matters related to the organization’s operations, financial, planning, audit preparation and budget programs.

• Using relevant and accurate data, plans, analyzes, and makes recommendations for future growth, development, and maintenance of the organization.

• Creates and implements business plans, projections, budgets, and other single and multi-year analysis projects.

• Collaborates with other departments and senior leadership to establish an effective budget for the organization as well as long-range, strategic goals for the organization.

• Manage, implement, and assess key strategic initiatives with a focus on client and donor relations and maximizing ROI.

• Lead team summarizing and prioritizing all organizational opportunities, enabling more efficient and effective resource allocation across programs/departments.

• Direct the identification and development of reporting and analytics packages measuring sales and marketing outcomes against business goals and metrics.

• Align budgets and resources with business goals and demonstrate solid ROI for marketing dollars.

• Develop and execute production plans initially in spreadsheets and convert to customize ERP software.

• Train and mentor staff in proper utilization of current proprietary procurement system technologies and ERP systems development and implementation.

• Facilitate monthly revenue planning sessions for tactical and strategic financial plans

• Performs other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.

At least five years of related project management, budget planning and analysis experience required, with specific experience in non-profit management preferred.

Retail project management preferred

Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience required

Must be willing to embrace the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith.

Must have a servant attitude and possess an experience and professional balance in administrative and spiritual knowledge, understanding, skills, abilities, and gifts

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.

• Ability to analyze and evaluate budgets and financial models.

• Ability to create and present ideas and budgets in a variety of formats.

• Ability to understand business

• Ability to maintain confidential records.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as needed to create and analyze

budgets.
