Full- Time: Approximately 40 hours/week Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm.

Pay: $50,000 - $60,000
Who We Are: PLAY Boulder Foundation, founded in 1976, is the official non-profit partner of the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department. Our mission is to support excellence in parks and recreation by mobilizing community support through education, philanthropy, and advocacy. We enhance local public spaces, preserve Boulder’s environment, and expand access to recreation programs.
Position Summary -Communications and Development Specialist
The Communications and Development Specialist reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for communications and marketing work, development and fundraising support, and operational support of programs.
This position will be a great fit for someone who shares a passion for environmental engagement, has excellent writing and communications skills, has experience with marketing and fundraising or program management, and is comfortable juggling multiple types of tasks to support their fellow team members. While this role will wear multiple hats, it will be done with deep support and guidance from the Executive Director and a very collaborative staff, and will be executing many systems and programs already set up and done successfully previously.
This position can be done remotely the majority of the time, but must be available to attend occasional in person events in the metro Boulder area.
Responsibilities
- Communications
- Execution of newly created marketing plan to engage community members, clients, and donors
- Based off of marketing plan and expertise, maintain an ongoing communications schedule for PLAY Boulder, both for specific fundraising campaigns and events, and for regular program communications
- Drafting, design, and execution of monthly newsletter
- Perform regular edits and maintenance to the organization’s website, create new pages for upcoming events & fundraising campaigns
- Press release creation & disbursement
- Analyze trends and perform audience segmentation for future communications
- Supporting some social media engagement and posting (this is mostly executed by another staff member, but will occasionally require support)
- Collaborate with program managers to ensure their program-specific communications and website needs are being met
- Development
- Individual donor campaigns execution, with guidance from the Executive Director
- Grants management - utilizing existing grants calendar to track application deadlines, reporting requirements and deadlines, etc.
- Grant writing - draft and submit approximately two grants per month (will have historical grant applications as reference, and is building off of existing funding relationships in some cases)
- Fundraising & community events - supporting the planning and execution of 1 golf tournament, 1 duck race, and 2-3 additional small partner annual fundraising events
- Event-specific responsibilities include creating and implementing an integrated communications campaign to promote the event, updating the website with event information, designing and purchasing promotional materials & signage, designing newspaper advertisements and writing press releases, photographing and videoing the event, and creating a recap video after the event.
- Management of donor CRM and mailing list
- Use the organization’s web donation platform to track incoming donations and create new donation pages as needed for new fundraising campaigns
Qualifications
- A degree (or pursuit of a degree) in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Fundraising, or similar field, or comparable experience
- 3-5 years of work experience in related fields
- More experienced applicants who have done a career pivot are welcome!
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to synthesize information and turn it into compelling content and cohesive communications campaigns
- Experience in graphic design and attention to detail when creating imagery
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite/Microsoft Office, Squarespace, and Square Up
- Experience with Bloomerang CRM and Squarespace website management preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects, adhere to deadlines, and prioritize tasks as needed
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
- Ability to work in a small organization with a big vision
- Strong work ethic with a desire to work hard and have fun!
- Interest or experience in working with nonprofit organizations
- Bilingual in English + Spanish is a huge plus
