Job Description

J146 Foundation is seeking an experienced major gifts fundraiser who wants to make an impact on the community by being part of an organization on an exciting growth trajectory. J146 Founadtion is hiring a Giving Officer to join our amazing Donor Relations team. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic professional who is enthusiastic about building relationships that lead to major gifts to the organization. The Giving Officer must have experience stewarding 4-6 figure gifts from individuals or planned gift giving circles, annual giving and planned giving programs. The Giving Officer will report to the Director of Development and will be part of the Donor Relations Team with the potential to become Director of Phylantropy.

The Officer Giving must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working to cultivate new donors, while enhancing key relationships. They must be a passionate people manager and culture carrier, working collaboratively with the J146 Foundation leadership team and staff. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Personally, manage a portfolio of major gift donors, and prospective major gift level donors from within the region to deepen relationships with major donors.
  • Conduct research on the giving potential of current donors and identify prospective new major gift-level donors from across the country.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Development, and in collaboration with other regional Gifts Officers, and other staff in accordance with the department’s development plan, devise, coordinate, and implement personalized short, intermediate, and long-term major donor cultivation, contact, and solicitation strategies for prospective, and existing donors, using moves management best practices.
  • Craft effective proposals, reports, acknowledgments, and other related communications.
  • Plan and execute various donor cultivation and stewardship activities throughout the region.
  • Coordinate with other staff on development opportunities during other program activities, and events, such as inviting donors to attend a conference or symposium, and producing a donor brunch, dinner, or cocktail party.
  • Provide regular and consistent reports to the Director of Development, CEO, COO, and Board as needed.
  • Engage prospects and donors through multiple channels, including in-person meetings, events and written communications. Conduct face-to-face meetings with prospects and donors at least 50% of each week to carry out discovery visits, provide briefings, implement tours, and solicit donors for support.
  • Support the overall long-term financial strength by serving as a contact for planned giving inquiries, and by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting planned giving prospects; stewarding donors for deferred and complex gifts, and serving as an expert resource to close complicated planned gifts from supporters in the region.
  • Enhance donor gift planning and giving by remaining current with regard to the variety of planned gift options available and provide a high level of knowledge and expertise in areas of gift planning strategies and deferred giving vehicles, as well as major gifts, general fundraising, and estate and financial planning.
  • Communicate the status of current fundraising activities and stimulate interest in planned gift-giving by preparing written materials, including materials promoting planned gifts, proposals, contact reports, gift acknowledgments, newsletter articles, administrative reports, and any other materials that would support the planned giving program and the donors or prospective donors to this program.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years of experience in non-profit fundraising and/or in sales is required.
  • 3+ years of experience working on a team.
  • A Bachelor's degree or an advanced degree in business administration, sales, marketing or communications or an MBA is a plus.
  • Must have a successful track record of closing four- and five-figure gifts; six-figure gifts a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service to donors and community stakeholders.
  • A sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of fundraising principles and practices, and a demonstrated high level of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, and success in fundraising.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, great attention to detail, the ability to process and maintain confidential information, and develop strong relationships with both internal and external constituencies to promote a positive collaborative spirit across the organization's network.
  • In-depth knowledge of the communities served by J146 Foundation.
  • Public speaking and Spanish language skills a plus.
