Job Description

The Bolsa Chica Conservancy Executive Director position requires a dynamic leader who is passionate about directing all aspects of the organization; day-to-day operations, administration and finance, fundraising, development and management of programs, and community relations. 

Reports to: Board of Directors

Salary: Commensurate with experience up to $120,000.00/year.

This position is on-site at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Interpretive Center.

General Function

Responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the BCC Organization by providing leadership, direction, and strategic planning in support of its mission and goals.
Provides leadership, direction, and support to the board of directors in establishing policies, developing organizational goals, attaining, allocating, managing, and maintaining the stability of funding resources.
Leads and directs management and staff in carrying out the key roles and responsibilities to deliver high quality program services that identify BCC as a leader in the area of coastal ecology.

Essential Functions

Oversee routine business functions including accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, human resources, and administration.
Manage all fiscal operations through hands-on budgetary development and oversight designed to deliver a balanced budget annually. Operate the organization within the approved operating budget.
Ensure that BCC operates within a comprehensive program strategy that will ensures high-quality programs that will foster continued growth, success, and optimal mission impact for programs and services.
Serve as the community liaison and spokesperson for BCC in the city or geographic areas served by the organization.
Provide leadership and direction to staff and board members, always leading by example while serving as a positive role model for staff and community members.
Manage, develop, and support the Board of Directors and related committees in areas such as Board Development, Resource Development, Community Relations, and other areas as needed.

Essential Requirements

Strong record of managing an organization from a top leadership position.
Proven ability to successfully develop, organize and manage resource development and marketing strategies including annual fundraising events and campaigns, grants, donations, and program related income.
Successful history in grant writing and grant management.
Experience in staff development and leadership training.
Effectively represent BCC in the community with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with community organizations, government entities, and corporate partners.
Willingness to serve on outside boards, task forces, committees, and service organizations for the advancement of BCC.
Maintain communication with the other organizations engaged in the preservation, protection, and restoration of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.
Ability to strategically lead the organization in developing new and innovative programs and services to best address the ever-changing needs of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and local community.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Five years of prior management experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
At least two years experience in a top leadership position.
Knowledge and appreciation of coastal ecology, saltwater marshlands, wildlife, and native coast vegetation or willingness to learn.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
