(LSA) is a neighborhood-based nonprofit committed to offering human services to the underserved, marginalized and poorest families of East Harlem. Over 2,500 families benefit from LSA’s holistic, multi-service model of supporting families in their struggle to emerge from crisis, poverty or illness.
Position Description
The Communications Manager will be a dynamic, creative, self-motivated individual with strong writing and technical skills, able to expand and enhance all aspects of LSA's communications and marketing. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Communications Manager will also provide support to the leadership team and program directors as requested and/or needed.
The Communications Manager will contribute to agency communication efforts as they relate to fundraising, program marketing, brand awareness, internal communications among LSA staff and clients, and external communications among LSA community partners and allies.
Job Responsibilities
● Develop written and visual content of materials for both print and online media, including fundraising appeals, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, event invitations, emails, flyers, posters, banners, stationery, postcards, etc. Includes copywriting, editing, securing photos, securing and supervising consultants or freelancers when necessary.
● Enhance and maintain LSA presence on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, etc.).
● Maintain websites for LSA (littlesistersfamily.org, and spiritofeastharlem.com) using Wordpress and the agency’s thrift store (thesharingplacenyc.com) using Squarespace.
● Coordinate timely publication of all print/online/video materials. Supervise and coordinate production schedule with designers, photographers, printers, videographers, etc.
● Generate core website content, links and downloadable files. Make updates in Wordpress. Work with program staff to develop and update text and photography. Manages the posting of organizational news to the website along with relevant new posting to our social media channels.
● Create press releases and letters to the editor, and secures posting of these items as needed.
● Respond to and coordinate media opportunities, including requests for interviews.
● Update marketing materials and create media packets.
● Strengthen and manage brand identity.
Requirements and Qualifications
● Proficiency with: Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro; WordPress, Squarespace, Constant Contact, and Canva. Experience with Hootsuite is a plus.
● Must possess excellent writing, proofreading and oral communication skills; must be able to write on demand, work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in a related field: eg. English, Journalism, Public Relations.
● Able to take direction and feedback while also taking initiative and working independently.
● Highly organized, and able to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
● Bilingual (Spanish, English) preferred.
● Able to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed, for special events, etc.
● Sense of humor and positive attitude.
