EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

 

NAMI Greater Indianapolis is a grassroots organization with the mission of improving the lives of individuals living with severe mental illness and their families through education, support, and advocacy. We offer focused and effective education and support programs tailored to varied audiences including family members and caregivers, direct service providers, and the public.

 

The Executive Director develops and coordinates marketing, communications, and public relations efforts for the organization to ensure strategic and effective messages are presented to the public to bolster NAMI Greater Indianapolis brand and programs and to support and promote fundraising activities and events as well as donor development initiatives. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for providing office management services to NAMI Greater Indianapolis. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining office services, supervising staff, volunteers, interns, and maintaining office records.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Marketing, Community Outreach, & Public Relations experience
Mental Health Advocacy Work - both in the legislative nature, as well as in a personal and “boots on the ground” nature (working closely with families and those affected by mental illness as they navigate resources)
A willingness to learn and grow in areas where expertise is not already established
Recommend policies and administrative guidelines to the board to provide a framework for the management of NAMI Greater Indianapolis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with NAMI Greater Indianapolis programs
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, nonprofit, fundraising, grant writing
 Program and project management experience
Supervisory experience
Social media management, Experience writing press releasees and media advisories
QuickBooks
Google drive
Paychex
Proficient Microsoft Suite

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Role – The Chapter Administrator is a comprehensive leader for the organization and within the community, responsible for overseeing the programs, administration, and strategic planning for the good of the organization and all who it serves
Board Governance: Works with the board of directors to fulfill the organization’s mission
Responsible for leading NAMI Greater Indianapolis in a manner consistent with the mission and vision as defined by the board of directors
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing all necessary information for the Board to function effectively and efficiently & to make informed decisions
Incorporate principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in all outreach and engagement work
Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial feasibility of the organization and its operations
Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenue streams necessary to support the mission of NAMI Greater Indianapolis
Responsible for the fiscal development and management of NAMI Greater Indianapolis, to include the annual budget and monthly financial reports
Responsible for day-to-day fiscal management within the approved budget to maximize the financial position of NAMI Greater Indianapolis
Responsible for grant writing, grant management, and communications
Organizational Strategic Planning and Mission: Works with board of directors and staff to ensure the mission is fulfilled through strategic planning, programs, and community outreach
Responsible for the implementation of the programs that support the mission of the organization in conjunction with the vision and goals of the board of directors – keeping in mind the resource and advocacy needs of those in the surrounding community affected by mental illness
Responsible for the enhancement of NAMI Greater Indianapolis reputation and rapport with the community and mental health providers in the area through coordinated, tangible involvement in the community served by the organization
Responsible for building relationships and working with other professional, civic, and private organizations, including other nonprofits
Comply and work in accordance with national charter and sponsorship agreements
Participate in Executive Director Leadership Exchange, including annual in-person gatherings
Compile pertinent data on programming and people served, and oversee reporting of data to funders
Planning and operation of the annual budget
Serve as NAMI Greater Indianapolis public relations contact to all audiences
Establish and maintain relationships with community stakeholders

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

 

Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Google
Proficiency in social media platform management (FB, Twitter, Instagram)
Experience in design programs: Canva, Adobe preferred
Working knowledge of website management
Detail oriented
Ability to work independently in a small office
Ability to multi-task
Self-starter with strong organizational skills

 

 

 

 

WORK CONDITIONS/ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Work is performed in an office environment
Work outside of normal working hours may be required from time to time due to outreaches
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time

 

COMPENSATION

Salary Range $50,000 to $60,000 based upon qualifications and experience
