BACKGROUND
Co-founded by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, Inequality Media (IM) is an award-winning non-profit with an audience of over 7 million followers across Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, and Snapchat. IM uses digital storytelling to educate and engage the public about economic inequality and the imbalance of power in our democracy. We produce compelling original content, with a focus on short-form explainer videos, and share it through social media to provide a way for viewers to mobilize, educate their communities, and take action.
The content we produce includes multiple videos per week that:
Add context to prominent stories in the news cycle related to structural trends in politics and the economy;
Explain the underlying facts and economics in a way that is both engaging and accessible; and
Tie the issue back to the larger story of how widening inequality undermines our economy and threatens our democracy (an analysis that is often missed by the mainstream media).
We do this with a small, highly collaborative team of six full-time staff members, and several expert consultants. Operating much like a start-up, we are a fast-paced organization which values innovation, teamwork, inclusiveness, respect, creativity, humor, and a “growth mindset.”
Our videos have been viewed over 90 million times. As our reach and output has grown, our need for additional digital content producers and managers has increased. We seek a Digital Strategy Associate to help us build a greater capacity for content creation and to explore new possibilities on emerging platforms.
