ORGANIZATION
Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill and Ronald McDonald House of Durham & Wake are in the exciting process of joining forces. On July 1, 2023, the two organizations will formally merge to become Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Triangle (RMHC Triangle).
Together, the new organization will operate three Ronald McDonald Houses located in Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh with a combined total of 113 bedrooms to provide family-centered care for seriously ill or injured children and their families. Based on the number of bedrooms, RMHC Triangle will be the 8th largest RMHC organization in the U.S. and the 13th largest in the world. In addition, RMHC Triangle will operate three Ronald McDonald Family Room programs at Duke, UNC & WakeMed Children’s Hospitals that provide in-hospital respite for pediatric caregivers.
Once merged and with expanded licensing from RMHC Global, RMHC Triangle will be positioned for program growth to improve the health of children.
LOCATION
The primary office is located at Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. A secondary workspace is located at Ronald McDonald House of Durham.
POSITION SUMMARY
Initially, this position will support the marketing and communications efforts of the two separate chapters, reporting to Senior Director, Philanthropy (RMH Chapel Hill) and Director, Annual Giving & Communications (RMH Durham/Wake),
Beginning in early 2023 and in preparation for the merger, the Manager of Marketing & Communications will transition to report to the new V.P., Development & Communications and help establish a vision, plan, and materials for the launch of RMHC Triangle. Once merged, the main areas of responsibility include chapter communications, social media, and publications. In addition, this position provides material writing & design and online support for program services and development teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Communications
- Manage all aspects of RMHC Triangle’s communications, including website content & design, letterhead, business cards, signs, and email signatures
- Design merchandise and gifts that build the brand of RMHC Triangle and support our relationship with constituents
- Support media relations activities of RMHC Triangle
- Collaborate on branding campaigns with McDonald’s and other community partners
- Assist with the development of videos
- Ensure that all external communications adhere to RMHC Global brand and style guidelines
Social Media
- Develop a strategy and content calendar for all RMHC Triangle social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, that align with marketing and fundraising goals
- Administer budget and implement paid advertising on social media
- Create and implement social media posts with a balance of information, inspiration, engagement, and calls to action; promote cause marketing with RMHC Triangle partners
- Write and design evergreen promotions (car donations, Amazon Smile, pop-tab donations), online giving campaigns (Facebook birthdays, fundraising events, Giving Tuesday), and seasonal and ongoing wish lists (summer stock up, holiday giving)
- Serve as the RMHC Triangle point of contact for crowdfunding campaigns; assist campaigners and design/set up giving pages; serve as team lead for peer-to-peer campaigners, providing oversight for connection, fundraising, & stewardship strategies
- Collaborate and support Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) student athletes
- Set and manage social media, website, and other online goals through the use of Google analytics
Publications
- Create an organizational communications strategy ensuring consistent and compelling messaging and branding in all materials, including writing and design of print newsletter, digital eNews (RMHC Triangle, corporate eNews, specialty eNewsletters)
- Work with staff internally on mailing strategies and mailing lists
- Work with printers to meeting budget and timing goals
- Interview RMHC Triangle guest families, donors, volunteers representing all RMHC Triangle programs and write stories for use in communications and at events; use compassion and judgement in how stories are shared; fully disclose the potential uses of family, donor, and volunteer information and photos before interviews, and follow interviewee wishes
- Maintain a bank of high-resolution family and program-impact photos for use in publications and social media and to support major-donor communications
Special Events, Major Gifts & Programs
- Promote annual wish-list drives and Share-A-Night t-shirt fundraising campaign through creation of materials and management of campaign timelines - Work collaboratively with program, development, and finance staff
- Assist program staff in meeting brand standards and accomplishing goals through the writing and design of materials, both print and online (signs, fliers, materials for guest services)
- Support RMHC Triangle events through the creation of invitations, commitment forms, programs, and other materials; support community events with branded materials, as needed
- Support RMHC Triangle major gifts with major donor and other specialty eNewsletters, invitations and other materials
- Design merchandise and gifts to meet special programmatic needs
Qualifications
- High energy and passion for the RMH mission
- 3 years of professional experience in nonprofit marketing and communications
- Experienced and skilled in graphic design using InDesign and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and familiarity with AP writing style guidelines
- Experience working and contracting with designers and commercial printers
- Skilled in communicating with a wide variety of audiences and through multiple media to raise awareness about the mission, share stories, publicize events, and promote different types of giving opportunities
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement strategic and comprehensive communications plan
- Understanding of how nonprofit marketing and communications support the cultivation of relationships and fundraising success
- Ability to work independently without close oversight, and also as a team player who productively engages with others within and outside RMH
- Strong time management skills with exceptional attention to detail in writing and design
- Flexible and adaptable style; positive and welcoming attitude; someone who provides service above and beyond what is anticipated
- Bachelor’s degree desired
- Valid driver’s license
