Lillian’s List is committed to making progressive change in North Carolina, protecting legal abortion, and seeing more women elected to public office. We’re growing our team, adding a Program Manager who will help identify emerging women leaders and provide the support services needed for our progressive women champions to run, win and lead in North Carolina,
Lillian’s List has focused on identifying and recruiting emerging women leaders who support access to legal abortion, reproductive freedom, and gender equity and helping them run for public office for over 25 years. We have a track record of success, training nearly 1,000 potential candidates, supporting over 190 women and electing 89 of them to the legislature or Council of State since our formation. In 2022, we elected 11 new progressive women to the legislature and helped ensure that legal abortion can be protected in North Carolina the legislature for the foreseeable future.
The Program Manager position involves leadership development, training, and candidate support. The Manager is responsible for development of a strategic training plan that centers strong organizational and community partnership. They will also manage the developing emerging leader mentorship program and evaluate Lillian’s List online and digital database of candidate resources to provide our progressive women champions support in determining when, whether, and how to run for office. The Manager will also support candidate recruitment by referring strong emerging leaders from training programs to the Executive Director or Recruitment Manager.
The Program Manager will work under the supervision of our Executive Director and will be based in North Carolina. Remote work opportunities within the state are available. Non-standard hours and statewide travel required, with accompanying flex time and travel reimbursement.
Ideal Experience and Qualifications:
- College degree required.
- Understanding of and a strong personal commitment to reproductive freedom and the advancement of women’s equity, especially in political and civic life.
- 3+ years experience working in community organizing or issue advocacy campaigns for community-based or statewide advocacy organizations.
- Experience planning and executing community forums, town halls, training or adult educational programs, including as a facilitator, or in agenda and curricula development.
- Experience managing and executing a training or event and evaluating its success.
- Thoughtful, strategic team player with positive attitude and commitment to working through roadblocks to achieve objectives.
- Commitment to progressive, inclusive leadership, openness to other viewpoints and opinions, and prioritizes work with diverse coalitions and communities.
- Basic understanding of and one or more years experience working on political campaigns preferred.
- Openness to giving and receiving feedback for continuous learning, evolution, and improvement
– committed to building their own skills as well as building the skills and capacity of their colleagues, including coalition partners and Board members.
- Ability to work well in teams and use direct communication to express needs.
- Strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, including weekends, and extensively in-state travel.
Technical Skills Preferred:
- Familiarity with and ability to use google docs.
- Ability to manage PDFs, edit photos, create graphics and edit webpages preferred, but not required.
- CRM database skills, such as NGP, for management of training registration and payment preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, manage and execute an annual strategic training/educational program plan and budget that meets Lillian’s List objectives for membership engagement, partnership development, candidate recruitment and preparation, and campaign staff and volunteer preparation in coordination with the Executive Director and Recruitment Manager.
- Identify, support, and manage facilitators, training advisory committees, facilitators, staff and any other members of the team helping to plan or execute a training program.
- Develop and implement appropriate strategies to identify potential training participants and recruit them to attend appropriate trainings, particularly in targeted counties as identified by the Executive Director or Recruitment Manager.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with statewide or community organizations with aligned values and a base that may benefit from engagement with Lillian’s List programming.
- Include strategic partnership and relationship development in planning leadership development programming or co-sponsorship.
- Conduct regular assessments of all leadership development and training programming to determine effectiveness and proactively recommend innovation and improvement to ensure educational programming meets the needs of emerging leaders and Lillian’s List objectives.
- Manage and update candidate resources, including those made available online or digitally.
- Prepare messaging, social media, or email communications about upcoming and available educational programming and ensure all programming is adequately promoted through Lillian’s List’s various online communications channels.
- Act as a LL contact for campaign staff working on the campaigns of Featured Candidates.
- Assist the Executive Director in evaluating the viability of campaigns for Featured Candidates as needed or requested.
- Perform other duties and special projects as directed by the Executive Director.
Compensation:
- Salary range $52,000 – 60,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
