The purpose of this role is to support the Executive Director in the leadership and

operational direction of the staff and site. The Operations Manager will help to broaden PSMA’s audience, strengthen the PSMA brand, develop and maintain interior and exterior spaces and bring initiatives to maximize revenues. The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of Portsmouth Submarine Memorial Association’s (PSMA’s) Albacore Park

Position reports to the Executive Director and Maintenance Supervisor. Starting date:  ASAP

Job Responsibilities:  The responsibilities of Operations Manager (OM) include the following:

·       Inspect and oversee building and grounds at Albacore Park for maintenance and repair issues daily and report to the Maintenance Supervisor regarding maintenance of the submarine

·       Monitor visitors to the Park to ensure they follow Park rules for safety and security

·       Schedule staff and volunteer working hours and supervise their activities

·       Assist and advise the Executive Director in the hiring and training of Visitor Center staff

·       Oversee regular Visitor Center functions of ticket/gift shop sales

·        Oversee the efforts of the Inventory Specialist with inventory, merchandise ordering, receiving and POS data entry

·       Acquaint visitors with the history, technology, and legacy of USS ALBACORE

·       Promote Staff’s knowledge and compliance of Standard Operating Procedures to include visitor and staff safety protocols

·       Assist in vendor cultivation

·       Assist in volunteer cultivation

·        Assist the ED in planning for and executing special events such as the Memorial Day Ceremony and the annual Navy History Day celebrations and coordinate required actions of assigned staff and volunteers

·       Maintain security of the Visitor Center, submarine, and archive annex building

·       Make recommendations to the ED for improvements to Albacore Park operations

·       Maintain frequent communications with the ED on Albacore Park activities, keeping the ED well informed in a timely manner of current and potential problems

·       Maintain inventory of operating supplies and support material necessary for daily operations

 Perform other tasks as mutually agreed upon with the ED

Required Strengths and Skills:

ü  Positive attitude, team leader

ü  Able to work 40 hours per week

ü  Have the ability to work in tight spaces, walk through confined areas, lift legs and arms to maneuver through a submarine

ü  Strong management skills with an ability to motivate staff and volunteers

ü  Able to learn military history and develop a technological and historical understanding of the features within the USS Albacore story

ü  Experience with POS systems (recommended) or ability to learn

ü  Fluency and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite

ü  Able to lift 30 lbs. frequently due to arriving stock

ü  High School Graduate with some college studies.  4-Year degree preferred
