As part of MISS’ commitment to our communities, we run several programs for K-12 and undergraduates. Science at the Sea and Science on the Move are our primary K-12 programs with local school and park partners. We also offer a 1-week long Spring Break Camp for middle schoolers and a 1-week long summer sleepaway camp on an island in Florida. Gill Guardians is our online program that enables students and teachers to download accessible learning materials, and we occasionally offer Zoom classes on different topics. Our Professional Development and Training programs for undergraduates consists of our Diversifying Ocean Sciences program, which involve weekly virtual meetings from January to April as well as week-long intensive workshops in the summer; 3-day workshops aboard a research vessel to learn about field techniques; and fellowships, which we offer to support people doing field research. We also coordinate monthly virtual events that are hosted by different MISS members and Friends of MISS This is an exciting opportunity to join a tiny but growing team as a Program Coordinator for these programs. In this role, you will oversee not only the logistics and operations of our K-12 and undergraduate programming, but also serve as a valued thought partner in program development and design.
