About the School: Keswick School is a non-profit, therapeutic boarding school located outside of Charlottesville, Virginia with a rich history and a national and international reputation of excellence. For 60 years, the school has provided individualized support for the academic, social, and emotional growth of each student. Our small school provides nurturing relationships, intensive clinical interventions, and an individualized education for up to 36 boys in our highly structured and immersive environment. Keswick School accepts boys ages 9-15, at the time of enrollment, from throughout the country and abroad who have a complex set of challenges and average to superior intelligence.

Opportunity: Keswick School seeks a Business Manager/Controller who will have direct oversight of all financial components of the school under the direction of the Head of School. This will include all financial recordkeeping and reporting, payroll processing, benefits administration, budgeting, general ledger and account reconciliations, and student and employment contracts.


A successful candidate will:

 

  • Have at least seven years as a business manager/controller
  • Have software proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and working knowledge of an HRIS software
  • Possess excellent decision and time management skills; ability to work under pressure and meet established deadlines
  • Be organized, take initiative, and be able to multi-task
  • Have meticulous attention to detail
  • Possess effective verbal/written communication skills, solid mathematical skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Be able to maintain positive internal working relationships with the Head of School, the school’s audit firm, and department heads
  • Be able to communicate effectively with parents, family members, staff, vendors, government agencies, and the general public
  • Have compassion for and desire to work with families
  • Meet all health requirements including TB screening and pass criminal background checks


Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of staff accountant
  • Supervision of payroll, federal and state taxes, year-end W-2s
  • Year-end 1099 processing
  • Insurance management to include employee benefits, worker’s compensation, business, auto, and liability
  • Maintenance of 401K including coordination of all paperwork and annual census information
  • Annual budget
  • Monthly journal entries
  • Preparation of monthly financial reports: Actual to Budget, Cash flow, Deferred Revenue
  • Monthly reconciliation of all bank and credit card accounts
  • Executive reporting and budget prep for board meetings
  • Financial aspects of plant management and capitol campaign financials

 

Education/Experience:   A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent business experience. Minimum of seven years business/bookkeeping experience required.

Working Conditions: Casual, small office environment. Potential remote work.

Starting Salary: $80,000-$90,000, depending on qualifications
