POSITION MISSION: Provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for the entire camp community by working collaboratively with the food services team to prepare fresh, nutritious food on time for each meal.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
- Prepare and cook food for up to three meals per day as the menu indicates, utilizing safe food handling techniques, and accommodating dietary restrictions and food allergies.
- Set up food, supplies, and utensils for family-style dining.
- Ensure storage of food and leftovers at proper temperature.
- Partner with the Food Service Manager to maintain correct documentation of the Summer Food Service Program.
- Maintain an awareness of food service inventory, and submit order requests to the Food Service Manager.
- Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
- Communicate schedule and job tasks effectively with all other food service staff.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- The base wage for this position is $730 per week for full-time/on-site staff or $15/hour for part-time/off-site staff.
- Our full-time summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.
- All meals are provided during camp sessions, and on-site, shared housing will be provided for staff who live outside the local Boscobel area.

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS
- Availability: assigned shifts of 8-10 hours per day on a typical day, and additional hours when necessary (flexible for part-time staff).
- The camp kitchen season runs from late May to mid August, with possibility of working retreat weekends in the spring and fall of 2023.
- If living on site, must be able to live in shared staff housing.
- Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.
- A valid and up-to-date ServSafe Food Handler certification (PEAK can support in attaining).
- At least 6 months of experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS
- You will take direction from the Food Service Manager and/or Assistant Food Service Manager.
- You will report to the Assistant Director of Camp Operations.
- You will work closely with other Cooks, Kitchen Assistants, and teen Operations Interns.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds (with or without assistance).
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 12 hours).
- The camp environment is often hot and humid. You must be able to work in a commercial kitchen setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.
- Position requires working weekends and evenings, with time off in between camp sessions.
