POSITION SUMMARY: To support the maintenance of Lake Valley Camp to ensure a positive experience for the entire camp community.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • You will likely spend a large portion of your work time mowing, weeding, and trimming the camp property.
  • Examples of specific duties you may complete include:
  • Mowing grass, using zero-turn and push mowers
  • Weed trimming throughout camp
  • Gravel road repairs, and raking gravel from grass along camp roads
  • Trimming branches along camp roads
  • Raking/clearing creek debris
  • Replacing wood chips where needed
  • Splitting and stacking firewood
  • Rebuilding firepit rings
  • You may also assist the Facilities Assistant in maintenance and camp improvement projects.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • This position is compensated at a rate of $13.00 per hour, pre-tax.
  • Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.
  • Lunch is provided when you are working during camp sessions, and on-site, shared housing will be provided for staff who live outside the local Boscobel area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • You must have experience in grounds care. 
  • You must be skilled in utilizing manual tools. You must be skilled or well trained in using various tools and machinery such as weed trimmers, zero-turn and push mowers, tree trimming tools, etc. 
  • You demonstrate a strong work ethic; self-motivated and able to take initiative. 

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Previous experience in a related field (custodial, buildings/grounds supervision, handy-work, lawn maintenance) preferred, but not required.
  • Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

  • The Groundskeeper works directly with and reports to the Facilities and Grounds Manager with direction from the Camp Director and Assistant Director of Camp Operations.
  • The Groundskeeper may work on projects with and receive guidance from the Facilities Assistant, with direction from the Facilities and Grounds Manager.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • The camp environment is often hot or rainy. You must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. 
  • Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances in hilly terrain, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance. 
  • The Groundskeeper works during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from May through August at Lake Valley Camp in Boscobel, Wisconsin. Assigned work on weekend days is occasionally required. 
  • You will work an average of 20 hours per week and the schedule may include weekends. Hours may be flexible due to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.
