WRINM Wildlife Rehab Clinic Director

 

Wildlife Rescue, Inc. of New Mexico (WRINM) is a 501(c)(3) org dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native NM wildlife, and providing education on wildlife and conservation issues (wildliferescuenm.org). The WRINM Wildlife Clinic is located on the grounds of the Rio Grande Nature Center in Albuquerque. We seek an experienced, dedicated, knowledgeable wildlife rehabilitator to lead our Clinic’s day-to-day rehabilitation services and operations. Work will be performed primarily on site at the Clinic, with occasional local travel for job-related duties. Reports to the Board President and meets regularly with the Board of Directors. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively, and work productively and collaboratively with a dedicated team of volunteers in a diverse community.


Main duties include:

1.    Collaborates with, partners with, and supports the work of volunteer Clinic shift managers, at-home rehabilitators, and other volunteers in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of wildlife.

2.    Coordinates and oversees Clinic daily wildlife rehabilitation operations. Ensures that volunteer positions are staffed for each shift, provides coverage if needed, may serve as back-up volunteer coordinator or delegate volunteer coordinator tasks as needed. Leads volunteers to ensure completion of Clinic tasks. Responsible for inventorying, ordering, and procuring Clinic supplies.

3.    Assures legal compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, including rehabilitation permits and renewals, data reporting, and annual reports to wildlife agencies.

4.    Works with shift managers, volunteer rehabilitators, and veterinarians to assess issues related to animal care, releases back to the wild, euthanasia, and transfer of animals to other organizations; works alongside shift managers and rehabilitators to ensure animal care adheres to rehabilitation standards and best practices, such as those of the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council.

5.    Collaborates with and seeks input from shift managers and rehabilitators in evaluating and updating Clinic rehabilitation protocols, best practices, systems, and policies.

6.    Serves as a liaison, and establishes and maintains productive working relationships with the Rio Grande Nature Center director and personnel. Meets regularly, communicates and fosters positive working relationships with WRINM constituency groups and teams including Clinic shift managers, Board of Directors, Raptor/Education Team, Mammal Team, Phone Team, and other volunteers.

7.    Coordinates and leads recruitment efforts and training of WRINM volunteers; spearheads volunteer recruitment activities; acts as a resource for training questions; conducts volunteer training and/or collaborate with other trainers, including regular training for Clinic shift managers.

8.    Provides input and helps maintain WRINM’s presence on social media as directed by the Board of Directors; acts as a WRINM representative; may respond to inquiries from wildlife agencies, other wildlife rehab groups, potential volunteers, and members of the public.

9.    Makes recommendations to the WRINM Business Manager on budgetary requests such as the purchase of new equipment and building improvements; may interact with contractors and vendors as appropriate.

10. Performs annual tasks such as review of the status of the building lease and grant applications.

11. Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation.

• Management experience, including experience leading and/or supervising team members, volunteers, or employees.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 30 credit-hours university-level coursework in biology, zoology, wildlife conservation, veterinary sciences, or a related field.

• Experience working in a non-profit or all-volunteer organization.

• Some knowledge of how to post news articles and updates on social media, as directed.

• Skill in coordinating website content and email account updates.

 

Conditions of Employment

• Within 60 days of hire, must apply for and be granted (sub)permittee status under WRINM’s state and federal wildlife rehabilitation permits.

• Within 90 days of hire, if not already completed, must successfully complete the IWRC “Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation” and “Pain and Wound Management” classes.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a personal, dependable, insured vehicle available for use (mileage reimbursement is available for on-the-job travel).

• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background and department of motor vehicle background check, required.

 

 

Position:        Full-time, 40 hours per week with some work outside of regular business hours

Salary:            $40,000 - $50,000, depending on related experience and qualifications

Benefits:        Stipend of 15% for healthcare insurance; 11 paid holidays, 20 days paid personal time
