Job Description

Duties:

- Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to students in middle school math or ELA

- Assess students' learning needs and develop personalized tutoring plans.

- Explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.

- Help students improve their study skills and develop effective learning strategies.

- Monitor students' progress and provide feedback.


Skills:

- Strong knowledge and expertise in the subjects mentioned above.

- Excellent communication skills to effectively explain concepts to students of different ages and educational backgrounds.

- Patience and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.

- Experience working with children or adults in an educational setting.

- Ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment.


Licensed Teacher -Tutor ($25 hourly) Non-licensed Tutor ($20 hourly)


Paid training via Zoom: Second week of September


Program Dates: 9/18/23 - 12/15/23


The school follows a rotating schedule where each school day is designated as either Day 1 or Day 2 resulting in a different schedule every week.

Week 1: Monday, Wednesday and Friday tutoring a total of 18 students from 9:09 - 3:15 including 1 paid prep/coaching hour and time for lunch. No tutoring occurs Tuesdays and Thursdays these weeks.

Week 2: Tuesday and Thursday tutoring a total of 18 students from 9:09 - 3:15 including 1 paid prep/coaching hour and time for lunch. No tutoring occurs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays these weeks.

4 hrs. per day of tutoring plus 1 prep/coaching = 15 total hours of work per Week 1 and 4 hrs.per day of tutoring plus 1 prep/coaching = 10 hours of work per Week 2 while school is in session.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity.
  • Must possess a current Virginia teaching license to receive the $25 hourly pay rate.
  • Must complete a Criminal History/Background Check including fingerprinting
  • Experience with Google Suite functions including Google Sheets and Forms.
  • Professional skills include attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to site.


Employer Qualifications:

  • Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy.
  • Background Clearance - The final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and employment authorization verification.
