Job Description

The Animal Caretaker and Administrative Assistant position covers both daily wildlife care tasks, as well as administrative office duties. They are responsible for ensuring BWS protocol is followed and standards are met in regards to cleaning, and caring for, over 600 native and non-native species of bats. Daily care tasks include but are not limited to handfeeding wild insectivorous bats, cleaning and upkeeping small and large enclosures, sorting and caring for mealworms, administering medications and supplements, record keeping, laundry, general cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping, chopping and preparing large quantities of fruit and vegetables, washing dishes, and hanging large containers of fruit. Administrative office duties are constantly evolving, but will include handling phone calls, running errands, keeping inventory, creating social media content, updating the website, fulfilling and shipping out store orders, monitoring social media messages, updating wish list sites, and collaborating with the Assistant Director and Executive Director on larger projects and fundraisers. This position also includes fieldwork duties, such as the rescue, transportation, and release of wild bats. Company vehicles are typically used for fieldwork duties. This position includes both morning and afternoon work, with a minimum of 2 evening shifts per week. On days in which an employee has a split shift, that employee is to be considered on call in the event of phone calls, rescues, and social media work.
