Overview
On behalf of our client, we are conducting a search for Chesterfield Alternatives, Inc. (CAI) Housing’s new Managing Director. As part of the Chesterfield County community for over 30 years, CAI Housing is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization working collaboratively with the housing and program staff of the Chesterfield Community Services Board (CSB) to expand housing opportunities for individuals served by the CSB. CAI has 20 group homes targeting residents with intellectual disabilities, mental health and addiction challenges. CAI does not provide health / mental care services or programming.
The full-time Managing Director reports to the Board of Directors (BoD) setting strategy, board development, working closely with local community resources, and providing volunteer oversight. Unrestricted cash assets are over $1 million. Come grow with us!
Job Duties
Summary of Job Responsibilities and Requirements
• Entrusted to proactively achieve annual goals and mission including oversight of CAI homes and housing advocacy and outreach
• Responsible for managing annual budget which has growth potential
• Identify new partnerships and maintain existing relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, county officials, donors, and media avenues
• Implement and manage the marketing strategies
• Develop and manage fundraising initiatives; some grant writing
• Fulfill all necessary administrative duties
• Effective communication with state and local government officials, community staff & BoD
• Protect the organization’s reputation and brand
• Performs additional responsibilities related to the success of the organization
Skills Required
Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in human services or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
• Five years minimum not-for-profit management experience; preferably in housing and / or human services
• Experience with community outreach and housing development
• Knowledge of federal and Virginia affordable housing options and how to expand those options
• Knowledge of funding for affordable housing available via the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and related state entities, such as the Virginia Housing and Development Authority and Virginia Housing and Community Development
• Experience implementing and managing federal and state funding preferred
• Knowledge of the affordable housing needs of persons with serious mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities and substance use disorders and experience with the Housing First Model.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; web development software (e.g., WordPress) a plus
• Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor management
• Strong organizational abilities including planning, scheduling, record and budget management, and task facilitation
• Demonstrated experience in creative problem solving and critical thinking
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience in Public Relations, working with the general public and media desirable
• Generally, Monday – Friday and on occasion weekends and evenings for community outreach
• Office is co-located in CSB building; hybrid arrangement optional and some schedule flexibility!
• Successfully complete pre-employment background screening
