Job Description

Description

PACEM is a low-barrier emergency shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. At PACEM, we embrace Empathy, Integrity, Inclusivity, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Respect. As a staff, we bring these elements to our shelter and ask for the same from our guests and community partners. We are committed to paying a living wage.

We are currently hiring for our 19th seasonal congregate shelter, November 5, 2022-March 24, 2023. This is a community-hosted shelter that changes location every two weeks; locations are centralized in the Charlottesville core (Belmont, Downtown, UVA Grounds, Rio Rd). We serve up to 25 adults per night in this shelter location, overnight only.

In addition to our seasonal congregate shelter, we continuously host homeless guests at 405 Premier Circle: 100+ individual rooms at a converted motel.

Shelter Directors are the on-site lead each night, including a 5pm-10pm on-site shift plus on-call coverage 10pm-7am. This position is responsible for conceptualizing and implementing processes that support the welfare, safety and comfort, as well as nightly support of the shelter guests. Shelter Directors work as a team under the supervision of the Operations Manager, and in cooperation with the Executive Director and the Case Management team.

Effective Shelter Directors imbue compassion, empathy and a genuine desire to help others, and have excellent communication and teamwork skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to self-manage in stressful situations. Training in shelter operations, trauma-informed care, inclusion and equity, and other topics will be required periodically for all staff.

To apply for one of our positions, include a cover letter, resume, and an overview of your shift availability. We will ask for professional references. Interviews may be conducted in person or via Zoom or equivalent.
